Who We Are
By statutory authority (§3-2-401-406, Montana Code Annotated), the Clerk controls the docket and filings, manages the appellate process, and is the custodian of the Seal of the Supreme Court and of all official Court records and files for the public and the Court. Acts of the Supreme Court (orders, opinions, etc.) are not official until they are formally filed in the office of the Clerk of the Supreme Court and thereby made public documents.
Additionally, the Clerk administers appellate mediation; issues subpoenas, writs and certificates; maintains the official roll of attorneys; and is responsible for licensing Montana's app. 4,600 attorneys.
